Community: The Climate Crisis Is Here—Let’s Act Like It

The climate crisis isn’t coming — it’s here. We’re already seeing it in Maryland: rising sea levels threatening the Chesapeake Bay, more severe storms flooding our communities, and record heat devastating crops and small farms. The cost of inaction isn’t measured in decades — it’s showing up in insurance premiums, grocery prices, and the health of our families right now.

We have a moral obligation — and an economic opportunity — to lead the transition to a clean energy future that works for everyone. That means protecting our planet and creating good-paying jobs right here at home.

I’ll fight for policies that confront the crisis head-on while strengthening our communities:

  • Invest in clean energy infrastructure — solar, wind, and next-generation nuclear — to power our future sustainably.

  • Create millions of clean energy jobs with strong labor protections and fair wages.

  • Make the clean energy transition affordable for families through rebates for home solar, EVs, and energy efficiency upgrades — not just corporate subsidies.

  • Support coal and fossil fuel workers in the transition with retraining, pension protection, and new opportunities in renewable industries.

  • Modernize our power grid to make it more efficient, resilient, and secure.

  • Protect the Chesapeake Bay and our waterways from pollution and runoff.

  • Support farmers and rural communities with incentives for conservation and sustainable agriculture.

  • Rebuild with resilience — investing in flood control, emergency response, and green infrastructure.

  • Hold big polluters accountable for the damage they cause and end taxpayer subsidies for fossil fuel companies.

  • Expand public transit and EV infrastructure to reduce emissions and give people real transportation options.

The climate crisis is the defining challenge of our time — but it’s also our greatest opportunity to rebuild America stronger, fairer, and more self-sufficient. Maryland can lead the way — and I intend to make sure we do.
